The experimental music-theater piece the Seventy Deadly Sins is the first collaboration of Ariel Efraim Ashbel and friends and the Solistensensemble Kaleidoskop. The show was based on a musical score by composer Ethan Braun, took place on a stage by visual artist Paul Maheke, and featured Ashbel and friends regular collaborator, singer Jessica Gadani. Based on the musicians’s choice of the most liked and most disliked musical piece in their arsenal, the show is a succession of ever-changing, unexpected scenes, organized in a weird dramaturgy. Whimsical images are woven into a new performative-musical composition, that bounces back and forth between different pop culture references and dives into ever new emotional worlds. In this strange fiction, the musicians continually oscillate between symphonic grandeur and the silliness of child’s play, covering the idea of “high culture” in a myriad of colourful masks.
