All About Eve

5782/2022

“All about eve” is a collaboration between Ashbel and three very dear friends: performer Efrat Aviv, light artist Omer Sheizaf, and the musician Nkisi. It was produced and developed by HaZira Performance center in Jerusalem, Israel’s leading space for critical work and artistic-societal experimentation. It is the first solo piece Ashbel ever made.
In a space that resembles a strange combination of a gym, a children’s playground and a torture chamber, a performer is negotiating different ideas of being, ranging from the entertaining to the sculptural, activating the space and being activated by it at the same time.
Inspired by the legendary Bette Davis, this stuntwoman goth-athletic bride excessively accesses performativity from different entry and exit points.
Set to the trance-infusing music of Nkisi’s debut album “7 Directions”, the piece is a celebration of the myriad of reverberant possibilities that open up when the space is more than a place and the body is both more and less than a receptor for a “soul”, a “personality” or a “character”.
